Srinagar- A policeman was shot dead by militants at his residence in Gudoora area of Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Friday, an official said.
Around 8:20 am Friday, Constable Reyaz Ahmad Thoker was fired upon by the militants inside his residence in Gudoora area of the district, a police spokesperson said.
Thoker, he said, received critical gunshot injuries in the militant attack and was evacuated to the district hospital, Pulwama for treatment.
However, from there, the injured cop was rushed to the Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar, where he succumbed.
Soon after the attack, police, army and CRPF reached the village and launched a search operation to nab the attackers. Senior police officers also rushed to the spot to take firsthand account of the situation.
“Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime,” the spokesperson said.
He said to pay honor and respect to the slain Constable, a wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines, Pulwama.
This is the second attack by militants within 24 hours.
