Srinagar– Days after Hawal residents voiced their displeasure over fines for residential area parking, now residents from city’s Dalgate area are up in arms against the traffic Department.
The residents from Dalgate locality say parking on the roadside is a norm and the locality does not have a proper parking facility.
In absence of a proper parking place, residents say they are forced to park their vehicles on the roadside.
“We’ve been parking in the same spot for years now, there are no signs suggesting ‘No Parking’ ,” said Sauliha Yaseen Wani, a resident of Dalgate.
“Anyone gets fined randomly and there is no authority where we can contest these undue fines” she added.
Locals say they park vehicles on the sidewalk because there’s no space to accommodate the cars inside the compounds.
They say in the last few months all they receive is an e-challan message with no details whatsoever as to why they were fined.
“Instead of harassing ordinary people on a daily basis, the authorities should ensure more parking spaces come up in the city” said Ali Mohammad, another resident from Dalgate.
Earlier, speaking to Kashmir Observer SSP Traffic Srinagar Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said that there was nothing unusual about the move.
“We receive complaints from different areas of the city about wrong parking and anyone found violating norms is fined” SSP Srinagar said.
