Srinagar- A hybrid militant of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and his associate were arrested by government forces on Wednesday in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.
Waqar Bashir Bhat, a hybrid militant and his associate Shahid Ishaq Pandit, both residents of Karimabad in Pulwama, were arrested by a joint team of police, army’s 50RR, 2 Para and the personnel of CRPF 183 battalion on the basis of specific information, a police spokesperson said.
Besides incriminating material, he said, arms & ammunition including one Pistol, one magazine were recovered from the accused.
According to the spokesman, during preliminary questioning, it surfaced that the duo were in direct contact with LeT Pakistani handler Ali Sajid and were tasked to carry out militant attacks and target outside labourers in the district.
“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been initiated,” he added.
