Awantipora- Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society at Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) Awantipora organized a one-day Seminar on the institution of ‘Zakat and Fasts: Socio Religious and Scientific Perspective’ to create an awareness about this religious provision for the well-being of the society.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, who was the Chief Guest on this occasion noted that the ultimate reason of fasting was to be a good human being and have basic good human qualities and etiquettes.
“At IUST, we promote education in the fields of Sciences, Technology and Social Science but as Muslims we have a responsibility towards the Islamic aspect of education as well,” he said. He also talked about university Centre’s like Habba Khatoon Centre for Kashmiri Language and Literature, Centre for Spiritual Studies, etc., which were instrumental in this direction.
Prof Romshoo highlighted the various socio-religious and scientific benefits of the institution of roza and zakat explained its significance in the contemporary world. “The United Nations has also started Zakat fund post Middle east wars. “As we know, our Islamic Sharia asks us to give Zakat but the issue has been the absence of an organized and transparent system for it To support students facing financial difficulties, we at IUST have started an organized and transparent Student Aid Fund, which also values the human dignity properly,” VC IUST added.
Prominent religious speaker and Principal Madinatul Uloom Hazratbal Srinagar, Prof Mohd Tayyab Kamili while referring to various saints and their sayings deliberated upon the significance of fasting and Zakat during the sacred month of Ramazan and said, “Fasting develops Taqwa in Muslims and compels us to be better humans as the month of Ramazan was filled with blessings (Barakat) and Sabr as well. We should be a source of blessings for even non-Muslims as we know we can offer Zakat to them as well and help irrespective of their religion and social identity.”
Director of Unani and Panchkarma Hospital Srinagar, Dr Nasir Ahmad Hakim discussed few researches and studies and noted how fasting cured Cancer, A.L.S, Diabetes, Heart Attack, Neurological diseases, Genetic Disorders and Auto immune Disorder, and such other incurable diseases.
Registrar IUST Prof. Naseer Iqbal mentioned the importance of this seminar in view of social, scientific and religious significance of Fasting and Zakat and how one remains away from wrongdoings and follow the path of righteousness in the Holy month of Ramazan.
Earlier, Director Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society Pirzada Amin welcomed the speakers and expressed his appreciation for everyone at the University for this seminar, which impart beneficial knowledge based on Islamic and Scientific education. The Deans, HODs, and Students of IUST and Mantaqi Higher School were also present in the event.
