Srinagar- At least six residential houses were damaged in a fire incident in a congested Namchabal area of Srinagar.
Official sources said the fire erupted at midnight at around 12:00 a.m., apparently due to a short-circuit in one of the houses. Soon, fire spread and engulfed five other houses in the vicinity. The fire was controlled with the help of fire tenders, locals and police, they said.
In the incident, residential houses belonging to Mohd Rafiq Mir and Owais Ahmad Mir, Mohammed Ashraf Mir, Jalal-ud-din Dar, Mohd Rafiq Tramboo, Parveena Bano and Waseem Ahmad Dar were damaged in the fire incident.
The houses of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Mohammad Shafi Mir, Owais Ahmad Mir and Mohammad Rafiq Mir, Arslan Ahmad Kar and Parveena, Tauseef Ahmad Kumar, Waseem Ahmad and Rameez Ahmad were completely destroyed.
The fire also partially damaged the houses of Jalal ud Din Dar and Mohammad Amin Dar.
Residents said they could not save anything as fire spread within minutes to the entire area.
However, no one was injured, sources said, adding the cause of fire was being ascertained.
A team of District Administration, Srinagar today visited Namchabal Fateh Kadal to provide immediate assistance and relief to the affected families whose houses were gutted in a fire incident on Friday.
The District Administration provided immediate assistance out of the Red Cross in the form of 85 blankets, 51 mattresses, 51 bed sheets and 17 kitchen sets, besides Rs 85000 to all 17 affected families 5000 each as an interim relief under Red Cross.
Meanwhile local police have taken cognizance of the incident. (KNO)
