Srinagar– A Pakistani militant and his associate were killed in an ongoing encounter with government forces in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, police said.
Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir following inputs about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired at the security forces.
In the ensuing exchange of fire, two militants were killed, the official added.
“#KulgamEncounterUpdate: 01 more #terrorist killed (Total 02). #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow,” police posted on its official Twitter handle.
The gunfight in Kulgam comes comes a day after three militants, including including top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Muhammad Yusuf Dar aka Kantroo, were killed in an encounter with government forces in Tangmarg sub-district of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district that ended after 40-hours on Friday.
