Srinagar– The residents of Pazwalpora, Shalimar allege that they get contaminated water supply from Jal Shakti Department. Residents say they have to wash their water tanks every few months owing to the muddy water they are getting.
“We have covered our taps with woolen sacks and after some time mud gets accumulated” said Masrat Syed, a Shalimar resident.
“It is not unusual to get muddy water in our locality” she added.
In addition to water they allege the water they are supplied is also ‘sticky’.
While the residents are up in arms against the Jal Shakti Department, the officials say they are doing their bit to provide quality water supply to people.
Tabish Jehan, Assistant Executive Engineer, refuted the allegations that water is unfiltered.
“There is a water treatment plant in the locality and the periodic desilting has also been done.
But, she acknowledged, the presence of impurities due to rain.
“We are entitled to provide quality water supply to people, we will get the water samples tested in the shortest period” she assured.
