Jammu- Former Congress Minister Jatinder Singh alias Babu Singh has allegedly gone into hiding after police in Jammu on Thursday arrested a hawala handler and recovered nearly Rs 7 lakh from his possession.
On the basis of a specific input that some unknown people are going to receive hawala money at Jammu, several checking points were established in the winter capital, a police official said.
He said that on suspicion, a police team arrested Muhammad Shareef Shah of Larnoo, Anantnag, from Gandhi Nagar area and recovered Rs 690000 from his possession
During questioning, the police official said that Shah disclosed that he was tasked by Jatinder Singh alias Babu Singh of Kathua (Chairman of Nature – Mankind Friendly Global Party) to collect money from one Omer at Srinagar.
After receiving money from Omer, he said, Shah came to Jammu where he was arrested
The police official further said that Shah has disclosed names of his local and foreign associates, Javed and Khatib residents of PcK and Farooq Khan of Toronto.
Giving details of the investigations, the police official said that three people identified as S. Gurdev Singh and Mohd. Shrief Sartaj, both residents of Jammu and Sidhant Sharma of Kathua have been rounded up for questioning.
Earlier in a Tweet, the police spokesperson said that a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
