Pakistani militant among the slain, one caught alive
Srinagar- Four militants, including a Pakistani commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) were killed on Saturday in three separate encounters with government forces across the Valley, while one militant was captured alive, police said.
According to a police spokesperson, police, army’s 50RR and the personnel of CRPF 182 battalion launched a cordon and search operation in Chewaklan village of Pulwama on Friday night after receiving specific information about the presence of militants.
As the search team started moving towards a local Darul Uloom, he said, the militants hiding inside fired indiscriminately upon them in which a civilian Zahoor Ahmad Shergojri was injured. He said that the injured man was later shifted to hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
“The joint party retaliated the fire leading to an encounter. Keeping the sanctity of the institution into mind, operation was carried out with all due precautions and deliberations,” the spokesperson said.
In the ensuing encounter, he said, 2 militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.
The police identified the duo as JeM’s Pakistani militant commander Kamaal Bhai alias Jatt, active since 2018 in Shopian-Pulwama areas, and Aqib Mushtaq alias Usman Hyder of Karimabad, Pulwama.
The spokesperson also claimed to have arrested an active militant during an anti-militancy operation in Wahibugh area of the district. He has been identified as Rouf Ahmad Mir of Parigam.
“Incriminating material, arms & ammunition including a pistol, 2 magazines, 26 rounds, 3 grenades and 1 pouch were recovered from his possession,” he said.
According to the spokesperson, two more militants were killed in twin encounters in Handwara and Ganderbal.
Following specific information, he said, police, army’s 21 RR and Para commandoes launched a cordon and search operation in village Nechama Rajwar area of Handwara.
He said a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Suhail Ahmad Ganie of Terigam Kulgam was killed in the encounter that broke out the search team came under fire.
Similarly, he said, another militant identified as Adil Ahmad Khan was killed in a gunfight with a joint team of police, 24RR & 115 CRPF in Serch village of Ganderbal.
As per police records, the spokesperson said, the killed militants were categorized and part of group involved in several “terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities”.
Besides involved in motivating youth to join militant ranks, the spokesperson said that Khan was also involved in attack on Vice president of BJP of district Ganderbal on October, 6 2020, besides civilian killings in Srinagar and facilitating grenade attack at Towheed Chowk & Chappargund in the central Kashmir district.
“From the three encounter sites, incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 02 AK-56 rifles, 01 AK short barrel rifle, 01 Pistol, 09 AK-magazines, 01 Grenade, 08 Pistol rounds and 32 AK rounds have been recovered,” he said.
The spokesperson quoted IGP Kashmir terming the killing of wanted Pakistani militant as a big success and congratulated the joint forces for conducting successful operations without any collateral damage.
“Besides, stressed on the officers to speed up the anti-terrorist operations so as to make the valley terror free,” he added.
