Srinagar- Police have arrested a government employee after recovering brown sugar from his possession in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said Friday.
Village Level Worker (VLW) Gulzar Ahmad Baba of Awoora was intercepted at a checkpoint by a team of policemen led by SHO Kupwara Mohammad Rafiq at Rigipora area of the district around 8:30 pm Thursday, a police spokesperson said.
Baba, he said, had tried to evade the police checkpoint but was caught tactfully. During his search, the spokesperson said, 21 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession.
During preliminary investigations, he said, Baba revealed that he was on way to sell the narcotics in small quantities among the youth of Kupwara.
“Further investigations in the case to unearth this drugs syndicate is in progress. Gulzar is a known peddler who in the garb of government employment is stealthily involved in drugs peddling in the area. Strong legal action has been initiated against him,” the spokesperson said.
