Srinagar- The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a computer operator of Public Works Department (R&B), Ganderbal for demanding and accepting bribe for issuing card to a contractor.
“ACB received a complaint wherein the complaint alleged that in order to release the Contractor Card-D in favour of the complainant, Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, Computer Operator of Public Works Department (R&B), Ganderbal is demanding Rs. 8000/- as bribe,” ACB said in a statement issued here.
The statement further said that after negotiations the matter was settled at Rs. 4000/- to be paid as 2nd instalment, while, Rs. 3000/- has already been taken by the accused as 1st installment.”
Upon receiving the instant complaint, ACB said prima facie offence U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. Consequently, it said, a case (FIR No. 07/2022) was registered at police station ACB Srinagar and investigation taken up.
“During the course of investigation a trap team constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, Computer Operator of Public Works Department (R&B), Ganderbal while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 4000/- from the complainant,” the bureau ACB said
“He was arrested and taken into custody by ACB Team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses.” Further investigation into the case is on,” the ACB added.
