Srinagar- Unidentified militants on Wednesday shot dead a Panch in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.
The Panch Mohammad Yaqoob Dar of Sundoo village was critically injured after suspected militants fired upon him in Kolpora village of the district on Wednesday evening, they said.
Dar, who sustained multiple bullet injuries in the attack, was removed to the hospital for treatment. However, the doctors there declared him dead.
Medical Superintendent of the district hospital Kulgam Dr Muzaffar Zargar said that the Panch had bullet injuries in chest and neck and was brought dead to the hospital.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued here, a police spokesperson said that preliminary investigation has revealed that militants had fired upon the independent Panch Mohammad Yaqoob Dar at Kolpora Srundoo area of Kulgam.
“In this terror incident, he had sustained critical gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment where he succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
Police, the spokesperson said, has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law.
“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” he added. (With agency inputs)
