Srinagar- The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a woman Sarpanch from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district for accepting a bribe for approving works under the centrally sponsored MGNREGA scheme.
Hafiza Begum, Sarpanch, Khulchohar was arrested by the sleuths of the anti-graft body for accepting a bribe of Rs6,500/- for approving work files related to works executed by the complainant, an ACB spokesperson said Wednesday.
Giving more details of the case, he said, ACB received a complaint alleging that the woman Sarpanch had demanded Rs 6500 on account of approving work files related to works executed under MGNREGA, 14 FC and SBM through the office of BDO Shangus.
“Upon receiving the instant complaint prima facie offence U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. Consequently, case FIR No. 03/2022 was registered at P/S ACB Anantnag,” he said.
Subsequently, the Bureau spokesperson said that a trap team was constituted that caught Hafiza Begum while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6500/- from the complainant.
“She was arrested and taken into custody by the ACB Team. The bribe money was also recovered from her possession in presence of independent witnesses,” he said, adding “Further investigations of the case is going on,”
