Srinagar- Scores of tourist cab drivers Thursday staged a protest here against what they termed as harassment by the traffic department on the name of document checking, saying that they are being stopped after every half a kilometre while travelling towards tourist destinations.
Talking to reporters, Zakir Hussain, a cab driver said that the traffic cops on the way to tourist destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg, stop them after every half a kilometre for document checking.
He said that such harassment is creating a bad impression with tourists.
“Even after paying taxes and completing all documentation, we are being harassed and those who have owned their personal cabs without any contracts are moving freely,” he said.
“We appreciate Superintendent of Police (SP) traffic and department for managing the traffic mess in City and we appeal them to look into our concerns too as it brings a bad impression in front of tourists travelling in our cabs,” the cab drivers said. (KNT)
