Srinagar- A policeman had a narrow escape on Friday after an unidentified militant fired upon him from close range in Batamaloo area of this capital city.
Around 3:50 pm Friday, Constable Munir Meraj was returning home from a market when an unknown militant fired at him from close range in SD Colony of Batamaloo, eyewitnesses said. Meraj, who was also carrying his child in his lap escaped unhurt in the militant attack.
“He was returning home from the market when an unidentified gunman fired a single shot towards him. He got a bruise in his ear and survived miraculously,” an eyewitness said.
He said the unidentified gunman quickly escaped from the spot after firing at the police constable.
Meanwhile, soon after the shootout, police and paramilitary CRPF personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the attacker, an official said.
He said that a case has been registered and further investigations have been launched.
