Srinagar- Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a militant associate of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) from south Kashmir’s Awantipora.
Umer Farooq Bhat of Renzipora in Awantipora was arrested by a joint team of police, army’s 55RR and the personnel of CRPF 185battalion and incriminating materials, including a hand grenade was recovered from his possession, a police spokesperson said Saturday.
He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was involved in providing shelter, logistic support, transportation of arms/ammunition and assisting the militants to shift their locations.
Bhat, he claimed, was also passing sensitive information regarding movement of police and central forces to the militants of Jaish.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated,” he added.
