13 Doctors, 24 Security Personnel Among Those Infected
Srinagar– Coronavirus cases continued to soar in Jammu and Kashmir as 1148 more people tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, the highest ever spike in recent months, while two more people succumbed to the deadly infection in the Union Territory during the last 24 hours.
According to officials, Kashmir Valley reported 508 fresh cases of novel coronavirus while the remaining 604 were detected from various districts of Jammu division, taking the total number of people infected since the outbreak of pandemic in J&K to 346506. Among those who contracted infection included 13 doctors, 12 CRPF personnel and as many as J&K policemen.
In the Valley, officials said, Srinagar registered the highest 256 new cases of virus, sixty among them travellers. Baramulla reported 94, Budgam 59, Kupwara 30, Bandipora 19, Anantnag 18, Kulgam 13, Pulwama 12, Ganderbal 5 and Shopian 2 fresh cases of Covid-19.
In the winter capital, officials said, Jammu reported a maximum of 301 new cases of virus, Udhampur 77, Reasi 71, Kathua 64, Poonch 45, Rajouri 29, Samba 26, Ramban 12, Doda 10 and Kishtwar 4.
“Moreover, 360 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 245 from Jammu Division and 115 from Kashmir Division,” officials said.
Also, they said that two more people died of coronavirus related complications in Jammu division, raising the death toll in the pandemic to 4546 in J&K—2211 in Jammu and 2335 in Kashmir.
Corona Hits J&K Bank, 2 Branches Closed
At least 25 employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank have tested positive for coronavirus forcing the district authorities to shut down two bank branches in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, reports said Tuesday.
The two J&K Bank branches including TP and Main branch in main town Bandipora were closed on Tuesday for public dealing after 15 employees tested positive for Covid-19, reports said.
The reports said that some employees have been asked to undergo quarantine while the contact tracing remains in progress.
SKIMS Recalls Faculty Members
The authorities at tertiary care hospital, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura Tuesday ordered cancellation of winter vacations for faculty members.
The faculty members have been asked to resume their duties without any delay.
“In view of the upsurge of COVID-19/Omicron cases, the Winter Vacation- 2022 of faculty members of SKIMS Soura, Srinagar is hereby cancelled. All the faculty members shall resume their duties immediately, without any delay,” reads the order issued by Director SKIMS Dr Parvaiz A Koul.
GMC Srinagar Suspends Classwork
Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Tuesday suspended all the theory classes in respect of MBBS and B.Sc. Paramedical Courses with immediate effect.
“Pursuant to Government Order No: 03-IK(DMRRR) of 2022 dated; 09/01/2022 issued under endorsement No: DMRRR/PS/Secy/551/2020 dated: 09/01/2022, all the Theory Classes in respect of MBBS and B.Sc. Paramedical Courses are hereby suspended with immediate effect,” reads an order by Principal /Dean Medical College Srinagar.
“However, online teaching and Clinical Postings shall continue as per the roster issued by the respective Departments,” the order added.
