Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday arrested two security guards of Lal Ded Hospital five days after they prevented a father to shift his new born to intensive care Unit (ICU) for the want of a tip.
The two lady security guards Dilshad Begum and Tasleema Jan were arrested by police after a case FIR no. 01/22 under section 304 IPC was registered against them at the Police Station Rajbagh, a police official said. The duo at the Valley’s largest maternity hospital were deputed there by a private agency namely Valley security agency.
The shameful incident took place on Sunday when the two lady guards intercepted Mohammad Amin when he was carrying his newborn to the ICU on the doctor’s instructions. A resident of Kupwara district, Amin was cornered by the security guards for a tip.
“I offered Rs 800 but the guards refused to take the money and did allow me to proceed to the children’s ward for ten minutes,” Amin had told Kashmir Observer.
His claim was also endorsed by Medical Superintendent Lal Ded Hospital Dr Syed Muzaffar, who terminated the services of both the security women immediately after the incident.
Pertinently, the incident sparked massive outrage across Kashmir following which the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Srinagar, Dr Syed Haneef Balkhi rushed to the hospital and inquired about the incident.
“We have taken note of this incident. Strict action will be taken against the two security guards as well as the outsourcing agency,” Balkhi told Kashmir Observer.
