Srinagar- Police on Monday said that the government forces killed a most wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant and a foreign national in two back to back encounters near Shalimar Bagh, Srinagar.
Saleem Parray of Hajin town in Bandipora, described by police as a most wanted and ‘dreaded’ militant, was killed in a joint operation of police and CRPF in Shalimar area of the city on Monday afternoon, a police spokesperson said.
The encounter with the Lashkar militant, he said, started after a search operation was launched in Shalimar on the basis of specific input about the presence of a militant in the area.
Saleem, he said, fired upon indiscriminately upon the search party which was effectively retaliated leading to a brief shootout & subsequently his killing
As per the police records Parray was a categorized militant and was active since 2016 and was wanted by law in several “terror crime cases”.
“He was involved in several civilian killings including the killing of Bashir Ahmad Dar and his brother Ghulam Hassan Dar at Shahgund Hajin on 05/05/2018, and the killing of Hilal Ahmad Parray at Parray Mohalla Hajin on 16/05/2018. Besides, he was also involved in the throat slitting of many civilians in the Hajin area,” the police spokesperson said.
The killed LeT militant, he said, was also involved in providing logistic support to the militants operating in the area to carry out attacks.
He further said that Parray had spread a “reign of terror by abducting civilians and killing/torturing” them in the name of informers, besides being involved in reviving the militant folds of LeT in Hajan and its adjoining area.
Soon after Parray’s killing, the police spokesperson said, another joint operation was carried out by police, CRPF and Army in the Gasu area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Zakoora.
During the said operation, he said, foreign militant identified as Hafiz alias Hamza of Pakistan linked with LeT was killed.
While interacting with media persons, the police spokesperson said that IGP Kashmir said that Hamza was involved in a series of attacks, including the recent killing of two policemen at Gulshan Chowk Bandipora on December 10, last year.
The Pakistani militant, he said, shifted to the Harwan area of the city due to frequent cordon & search operations in Bandipora.
“He was also involved in killing of a CRPF personnel at Hajin Bandipora, killing of a civilian namely Nadif Hanief Khan of Bilal Colony Soura in Buchpora,” he said.
Moreover, the police spokesperson said that both the killed militants were also involved in attack on search party of police and government forces in Hajin in which one police personnel Ct Zaheer Abbas was killed
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from both the encounter sites. Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law regarding both the encounters and further investigation has been initiated,” he said.
The police spokesperson quoted IGP Kashmir as congratulating the police and central forces for conducting successful operations without any collateral damage.
BSF Kills ‘Intruder’ Along IB In Samba
Meanwhile an intruder was shot dead on Monday when BSF troops resorted to firing following the detection of suspicious movement along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, a senior officer of the force said.
The alert troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) detected the suspected Pakistani intruder’s movement along the IB in Ramgarh in the early hours and opened fire after challenging him, officials said.
The intruder did not pay any heed and was subsequently shot dead by the troops, they added.
Meanwhile, an infiltration attempt by militants was scuttled along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district in the early hours of Monday, officials said here.
Troops guarding the Hamirpur area of Bimber Gali sector picked up movement of a group of suspected militants who were trying to infiltrate into this side from across the border under the cover of darkness, they said.
The alert troops scuttled the infiltration bid by challenging the group, who fled back into Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
A landmine, part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system, also exploded during this, the officials said.
They said a search operation was underway.
