Srinagar- Rakesh Balwal, IPS officer who led the NIA investigation into the 2019 Lethpora car bombing that killed 40 CRPF personnel, on Friday joined as Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar.
He replaced Sandeep Chaudhary who has been posted as SSP Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence.
A police statement said the outgoing SSP Chaudhary thanked Srinagar Police for their support and display of great professional integrity during tough times.
J&K government on Thursday transferred 27 police officers including SSP Srinagar.
Balwal, a Manipur cadre 2012 IPS officer’s was moved to inter-cadre deputation to AGMUT (UT of Jammu and Kashmir) in October this year. Balwal was earlier on deputation with the NIA, where he investigated the high profile 2019 Lethpora Pulwama bombing case.
