Srinagar- A Hizbul Mujahideen involved in attacks on government forces and a minority guard in Shopian district, was killed in an overnight encounter in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, police said Wednesday.
Feroz Ahmad Dar of Heff-Shrimal an ‘A+’ categorised militant of Hizb was killed in Uzrampathri village of Pulwama after a search operation launched by police, army’s 44 RR and the personnel of CRPF 182 battalion during the intervening night turned into a gunfight, a police spokesperson said.
Dar, he said, turned down repeated opportunities to surrender and fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing firefight, he said, the Hizb militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter.
As per police records, the spokesperson said that Dar was active since 2017and was part of groups involved in several “terror crime cases” including attacks on security forces and civilian “atrocities”.
Giving more details, he said, the killed Hizb militant was involved in the attack on a minority guard in December 2018 at Zainapora in which four policemen were killed and their rifles were looted.
Besides it, Dar, the police spokesperson said, was also involved in killing a girl Ishrat Muneer of Dangerpora Pulwama in February 2019.
“He was involved in killing of a non local labour namely Charnajeet son of Hans Raj resident of Fazila Punjab and injuring other in October 2019 when they were loading Apple boxes in a vehicle in Zainapora area of Shopian. Besides he was also instrumental in luring the gullible youth to join terrorist ranks,” he added.
According to the police spokesperson, incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including one AK rifle along with three magazines were also recovered from his possession. He said all the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
“Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at the encounter site is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any,” he added.
Pertinently, the overnight encounter in Pulwama broke out a day after militants carried out an audacious attack on a police bus in Zewan area of Srinagar outskirts, killing three cops and injuring twelve others.
On Friday last, militants attacked a police team in Bandipora town on Friday last leaving two policemen dead. One among the killed policemen was the lone bread earner of his family, including his four small kids.
According to police, a Pakistani militant killed the two cops escorting an officer before fleeing from the generally bustling Gulshan Chowk in the main town Bandipora.
