SRINAGAR- J&K senior men’s team on Thursday suffered a second successive defeat in Vijay Hazare Trophy and are now staring at a first round exit from the tournament.
The match against Himachal Pradesh was played at Dadoji Konddev Stadium, Thane, Maharashtra. The J&K team made a couple of changes from the previous match with the most notable being Ram Dayal replacing Aquib Nabi. J&K captain Shubham Pundir won the toss and elected to field first.
The team initially managed to remove Himachal top order batsmen, but was battered by middle order batters A R Kumar 49 (63), R R Dhawan 44 (52), and A P Vashisht who hit an unbeaten 51 (28) to help Himachal post a competitive total of 250/8 (50 overs).
For J&K, Ram Dayal and Parvez Rasool took 3 wickets each. While Umar Nazir and Mujtaba Yousuf both took 1 wicket.
In reply the J&K team could only manage a paltry 187/10 (42.3 overs). Ian Chauhan 36 (55) top scored for the team, followed by Shubham Pundir 30 (58). Abdul Samad 4 (6) and Parvez Rasool 1 (3) disappointed with the bat.
For Himachal, captain RR Dhawan took 3 wickets, while Arpit and GK Singh took 2 wickets each.
J&K XI: Abid Mushtaq, Shubham Khajuria, Shubham Singh Pundir (C), Henan Nazir, Vivrant Sharma, Parvez Rasool, Ian Chauhan (W), Ram Dayal, Umar Nazir, Abdul Samad, Mujtaba Yousuf.
J&K will next play Andhra on December 11 at Cricket Club of India, Mumbai. The match starts at 9:00 AM.
