Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday suspended three officials of the Public Works Department, a day after they were arrested by CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe from a contractor in Udhampur district.
Superintending engineer Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, technical officer PK Koul and junior engineer Sanjay Koul, all of PWD (R&B), Circle Udhampur-Reasi, were placed under suspension by the government through an order issued by Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary to the government, on Saturday.
“Pending enquiry into their conduct, the engineers are hereby placed under suspension in terms of Rule-31 (1) of Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, with immediate effect,” reads the order.
On Friday, the CBI took the trio into custody followed by searches at their residence and office premises. The trio, according to the agency, had received a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a building contractor at Reasi in Udhampur.
The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh for processing the file related to technical sanction of the project, the CBI spokesperson said Friday.
