SRINAGAR: Advisor to LG, Farooq Khan, on Friday flagged off the senior team of Downtown Heroes football club for Assam from SKICC here.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Assad, Secretary Sports Council J&K, Nuzhat Gul and other senior officers and officials were present on the occasion.
Advisor, while interacting with the players, urged upon them to give their best while representing Kashmir and bring laurels to the J&K.
Emphasizing on Sports promotion, Advisor exhorted upon the youth to become role models for others and make best use of all facilities being provided to them. He said the government would ensure all support to sports loving youth to cherish their dreams in the sports career.
On the occasion, Advisor also felicitated various para-athletes for excelling in different fields of sports and representing J&K at national and international level.
Specially-abled role models, athletes, players including Insha Bashir and Ishrat, twin wheelchair basketball players, were felicitated for their courage and achievement in various fields.
The Sports Council also awarded a cheque of Rs. 80,000 to Mohamad Sultan Rather, a young athlete without upper limbs, who has been selected to participate in International Wushu Championship to be held in Istanbul, Turkey.
