20 member senior squad has 6 players from Haryana
SRINAGAR: The J&K Senior Women’s football team left for Kerala on Monday to participate in the 26th Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2021.
The 20-member squad, along with 3 officials, will take on Skimm, Maharashtra, and Arunachal Pradesh in the opening round of the tournament scheduled to be held at Kozikhode, Kerala from November 29, 2021 to December 3, 2021.
Meanwhile, the Jammu & Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) has confirmed the participation of 6 non-local players in the J&K team saying they couldn’t get enough players from J&K, and had to take players from Haryana to make a strong team.
The team was screened by Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, J&K Sports Council at Jammu. Three officials accompanying the team include Alka Naseer (Manager), Masood Maqbool (Coach), and Ritasha (Physio).
It is pertinent to mention that the team was earlier rumoured to be scrapped, leading to strong objections from J&K National & International Footballers Forum (NIFF) who accused the Association of hindering football in the region.
While the inclusion of non-local footballers is bound to raise some eyebrows in the fraternity, all eyes will be on the upcoming JKFA elections where District and main-body JKFA seats will be on the line.
