3 Militants Killed In Srinagar, Kulgam Gunfights In 24 Hours
Srinagar: A district commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was killed in an overnight encounter with government forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, taking the number of militants slain in two separate gunfights in Valley during the last 24 hours to three.
Shiraz Ahmad alias Shiraz Molvi alias Abu Haris of Souch village and Yawar Ahmad Bhat of Ponipora, both associated with Hizbul Mujahideen were killed
in an encounter with a joint team of police, army’s 9RR and the personnel of CRPF 18 battalion in an encounter that broke out in village Chancer in Chawalgam area of Kulgam district on Thursday, a police spokesperson said Friday.
As per police records, he said, both the killed militants were part of groups involved in several “terror crimes” including attack on security forces and civilian “atrocities”.
Molvi, the police spokesperson said, was an A++ categorized militant and was active since 2016 figuring among the list of most wanted militants.
“He was also involved in recruiting innocent youth into terror ranks and in spreading a reign of terror by killing civilians as well as political workers in Devsar and Brazloo areas of Kulgam. There are 15 FIRs registered against him for several terror crimes,” he said.
Earlier, the police spokesperson said that the operation was launched on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the village. He said that during the search operation, as the presence of militants got ascertained, they were given opportunity to surrender.
“However they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party. The joint teams ensuring safety of civilians rescued and shifted all the civilians to safer places. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” he said.
“In the initial exchange of fire, although one terrorist was killed, however due to darkness the operation remained suspended throughout the night,” he added.
In the wee hours, the police spokesperson said that repeated announcements were again made to the hiding militant to surrender. However, the holed-up militant, he said, again fired on the joint search party which retaliated leading to the elimination of the militants.
He further said that the bodies of both the killed militants were retrieved from the site of encounter. He also said that incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-rifle & a Pistol were recovered from encounter site
“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigations have been initiated,” he said.
Pertinently, three militants have been killed by government forces in two separate encounters in Kulgam and Srinagar since Thursday morning.
The police spokesperson also quoted IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as congratulating the joint teams for carrying out both the operations in professional manner resulting in elimination of three militants including a most wanted militant
“He also congratulated Police/SFs for working with great synergy and coordination on the ground that lead to the elimination of 133 terrorists including many top commanders during this year,” the police spokesperson said.
