Srinagar: Two people, including a policeman were injured on Wednesday in a grenade blast in Eidgah area of the Old City here.
Unknown militants lobbed a hand grenade towards the picket of CRPF 61 battalion in Aali Masjid area of Eidgah on Wednesday evening reports said. The grenade, however, exploded on the road injuring a policeman and a civilian.
The injured identified as Aijaz Ahmad of Hawal and Sajad Ahmad Bhat of Narwara were removed to the hospital for treatment, reports said.
Bhat, who works in Jammu and Kashmir police, was on leave when he received splinter injuries in his left foot due to the blast, while Ahmad has sustained injuries on his face and left arm, reports said.
However, Medical Superintendent SMHS, Dr Kanwaljeet Singh told Kashmir Observer that only a civilian with minor splinter injury on his arm was brought to the hospital for treatment.
“His condition is stable,” Singh said.
Soon after the incident, police and CRPF reinforcements reached the area and launched a search operation to nab the attackers.
Pertinently, the grenade attack on CRPF picket comes two days after a salesman of a Kashmiri Pandit trader was shot dead on Monday in Bohri Kadal area of the Old City.
A day earlier, suspected militants shot dead a policeman outside his residence in Batamaloo area of this capital city.
