Tehran- The Iranian Islamic Revolution’s Guard Corps (IRGC) forces in Iran have thwarted an American hijacking attempt to steal a cargo of Iranian oil in the Gulf of Oman, according to Fars News Agency.
On Wednesday, Iranian state TV announced that the United States failed to steal Iranian oil in the Gulf of Oman, the TV added that “the IRGC boats confronted the US ship, in response to its unprofessional behavior in Iranian water.”
The IRGC said it will publish a video depicting scenes of the escape of a US warship in the Gulf of Oman, which was confronted by the IRGC boats.
The IRGC declared that “the Islamic Republic will protect its territorial waters and the security of maritime navigation,” adding that Iran will stand against any violation of its national interests.
Iranian state TV announced that “the IRGC naval forces carried out a bold and resolute operation, during which they confronted a sea piracy operation to steal an Iranian oil shipment by the US forces in the Gulf of Oman.”
IRGC carried out a landing operation on the US tanker with stolen oil
It detailed that “the US forces stopped an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, confiscated its cargo and transferred the shipment to another tanker belonging to it before heading to an unknown destination.”
Iranian state TV added that, in conjunction with this move, it carried out a landing operation on the US tanker, assumed control over it, and immediately directed the tanker towards Iranian territorial waters.
It detailed, “following the incident, several US helicopters and warships tried to regain control of the tanker, but their attempts to change the tanker’s course failed.”
The Iranian authorities confirmed that “the oil tanker is currently inside Iran’s territorial waters,” while several US naval vessels have again made greater efforts to cut off the tanker’s path and change it, but they failed,” noting that the American oil tanker is currently inside Iranian territorial waters.
On Tuesday an armed team of the Iranian Navy thwarted an attempt to hijack an oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden. This is the second operation of its kind in two weeks.
The commander of the Iranian Navy, Shahram Irani, had announced that “Iranian forces responded to an attempt to hijack two Iranian oil tankers on October 16.”
