Srinagar: The district authorities in south Kashmir’s Shopian have booked at least 9 youth under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted them to different jails outside the Valley.
According to reports, PSA warrants were issued by District Magistrate, Shopian against 9 people hailing from different areas of Shopian district. Among the detenues, Sameer Ahmad Malla of Maldera Zainpora, Muzamil Ahmad Dar of Rai Kapren and Muhammad Iqbal Ganaie, a resident of Chitragam village, have been lodged at the District Jail Rajouri.
Sajad Ahmad Bhat of Maldera Zainpora and Rouf Ahmad Bhat of Sofipora Zainpora have been shifted to district Jail Poonch.
Those who have booked under PSA and sent to District Jail Kathua are Junaid Haroon Rashid of Vehil, Waseem Ahmad Ganaie of Meemander Shopian, Irfan Ahmad Kutay of Chotipora and Jahangir Ahmed Malik of Kilora Shopian.
Pertinently, hundreds of people were rounded up by government forces from parts of the Valley after a spate of killings, mostly of migrant workers by suspected militants.
