J&K Bank beat Iqbal Sports 2-1, Novelty FC win 2-1 against SCFA
SRINAGAR: Wednesday witnessed two matches of the JKFA Khyber Premier Division Football League 2021 played at Synthetic Turf, TRC here.
In the first match, Novelty FC defeated Sports Council Academy XI 2-1. A must-win scenario for both teams, the match turned into a close encounter between two equally balanced teams. Novelty took the lead in 15th minute through Akib and maintained it till the end of first half.
In the second half SCFA dominated the proceedings and scored the equaliser in the 47th minute through Suhail. The match entered a state of attrition till the dying moments of the match when Novelty took the 2-1 lead through Owais, who scored a brilliant goal. The young SCFA team will be dejected with the loss as they created opportunities to score but failed to capitalise on any. For Novelty, however, it was a vital victory.
In the second Premier Division match, J&K Bank XI defeated Iqbal Sports FC by 2 goals to 1. In what proved to be a difficult test for J&K Bank, touted as competition-favourites, the team had to dig deep to get the win.
It was Iqbal Sports who took a shock lead in the 25th minute of the match. The team defended as a group and made it difficult for Bank players to score. The first half ended 1-0 to Iqbal Sports, and they maintained the lead till the 58th minute when J&K Bank’s talismanic striker Akif scored the equaliser for his team.
At 1-1, Iqbal Sports went into a shell, and ended up defending deep in their own half. The J&K Bank pressure resulted in a penalty awarded in the 75th minute of the match. J&K Bank captain Adnan coolly slotted the ball home to give his team the 2-1 lead, which they held on till the final whistle.
The victory meant that J&K Bank remain undefeated in the Premier Division League 2021.
Meanwhile, A-Division Annual League Football Tournament 2021 has entered its second round stage and Wednesday saw its second match played at Gindun Ground, Rajbagh between Alamdar FC Gopalpora and Seven Star Football Academy, which was won by Seven Star Football Academy by 2 goals to 1.
