Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government shifted 22 detainees, booked under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA), from Kashmir to the high-security jail in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh.
The transfer of detenues from Kashmir to the outside jail was carried out on the orders of the Home department issued on October 16. However, no specific reason has been given for the shifting of the detained persons.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under section 10-B of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act 1978, the government hereby directs to remove/shift the 22 detainees who have been detained under the provision of Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act 1978 from their present places of lodgment to central jail Agra, Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect,” reads the order.
According to the reports, the detainees shifted were lodged at Central Jail Jammu, and district jails of Udhampur and Kathua from last year. Among the detainees, nine are said to be from Anantnag, eight from Pulwama, three from Kulgam and one each from Doda and Baramulla.
