Srinagar: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in a shootout with the police at Natipora area in uptown Srinagar Friday evening. During the shootout another militant managed to give police a slip and escaped from the scene, reports said.

#Terrorists fired upon Srinagar Police team. Police also retaliated. During ensuing chance #encounter, one terrorist got neutralised but one escaped. Arms & ammunition recovered. Identification being ascertained. @JmuKmrPolice

According to an identity card recovered from the slain militant, he was identified as Aqib Bashir Kumar, a resident of Trenz Shopian. He was affiliated with LeT, police said.

Police later issued a statement saying that the entire area has been sealed and the manhunt has been launched to nab the second militant who managed to escape from the spot.
Pertinently, the attack on the police team comes at a time when security forces are maintaining the highest level of vigil in the wake of recent spate of killings in the city.
