Amman- A Jordanian government official announced that Royal Jordanian Airlines will begin operating direct flights to Damascus beginning October 3rd.
The Jordanian Prime Minister stated that flights will resume as of next month after they were suspended for nearly 12 years.
The agreement was made as part of a series of actions taken at the conclusion of a two-day ministerial conference between the two nations in Amman to improve trade, investment, and transportation methods.
A Jordanian-Syrian agreement was also reached to revive the joint water committee to monitor the implementation of the Yarmouk River agreements of 1987.
On Monday, the Syrian Ministers of Water, Resources, Agriculture, Electricity, and Economy arrived in Jordan to discuss a multitude of subjects regarding their respective sectors, as well as gas transportation.
The Jordanian Ministry of Interior announced the reopening of the Jaber border crossing with Syria, starting next Wednesday.
The ministry said that the decision aims to activate trade and tourism between the two countries, taking into account the required security and health measures.
Jordan’s border with Syria is a significant economic artery, as it ensures the exportation of Jordanian goods to Turkey, Lebanon, and Europe.
The Director-General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Tariq Habashneh, pointed out that meetings will be held with Syrian officials this week to discuss the problems preventing exchanging goods between the two countries.
