DC Conducts Whirlwind Tour, Seals 30 Business Establishments; Slaps 20K Fine On Violators
Srinagar: As this capital city continues to witness a sharp spike in coronavirus cases, the administration on Monday warned a lockdown in certain areas here for breaching Covid-19 protocols and endangering lives of people.
“As the medical experts are predicting third wave, 50 percent of the overall cases in J&K are reported from Srinagar. And it makes it quite evident that Covid-19 protocols are being breached. I urge everyone to strictly follow Covid protocols, wear masks and get vaccinated,” District Magistrate Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad said Monday.
Asad was speaking to journalists during a whirlwind tour of the city during which over 30 business establishments were sealed for violation of Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB)
“There are some areas, where positive cases are on rise due to violation of Covid-19 protocols. We will keep a watch on next two-three days. If protocols are not adhered in these areas, we will enforce a complete lockdown,” he said.
A visibly upset Asad went on to say that his administration will not allow a few areas to endanger lives of people in other parts of the city.
“We will not allow anyone to play with the lives of people. Wherever we find breach in Covid protocols, the enforcement squad will take action.
Meanwhile, the DM accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Chowdhary and other civil and police officials toured various markets of the city to check the implementation of Covid-19 SOPs.
During the inspection over two dozen business establishments were sealed and a fine of Rs 20,000 was also imposed on violators of Covid-19 SOPs, an official spokesperson said.
“The DC said no one has the right to infect others and people who do not wear Masks and avoid mass gatherings will face action as per law,” he said.
“He said any laxity or negligence on part of Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour will constraint the administration to go for harsh measures in Srinagar to break the chain of Covid-19 virus,” he added.
With regard to inoculation of anti Covid-19 dots, the official spokesperson said that the DC urged the left out population of Srinagar district to visit nearest Vaccination Centers and get vaccinated at an earliest to defeat any possible 3rd wave of Covid-19 pandemic as predicted by Health Experts.
“Meanwhile, the DC said that 50 percent of the total Covid-19 positive cases are coming from Srinagar and added that if Covid SOPs are not followed in Srinagar the administration will be forced to take strict measures again,” he added.
