SRINAGAR: After 60 round-robin and knockout matches in both singles and doubles events, the Srinagar Open Tennis Championship 2021 will culminate on Sunday at Gindun Sports Complex, Rajbagh here.
Moazzam Rashid will battle it out against Inayat Jehangir for the singles title, while in the doubles the pair of Inayat and Tufail Bhai will take on the team of Moazzam and haider Hussain. Both finals will be played on Sunday.
In the first singles semifinal match, Inayat defeated Asif Nowsheri in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in a game of attritional tennis where none of the players tried to enforce the pace of the game. In the end, the 46-year-old veteran outran Asif on fitness to storm into the finals.
In the second semifinal, Moazam and Haider Hussain went head to head. Moazam won 6-3, 6-1 to set up a repeat title clash against Inayat. The 28-year-old had won the title last year.
The singles semifinals were officiated by Kulwant Singh, who has been deputed to the tournament by All India Tennis Association at the request of J&K Lawn Tennis Association.
The doubles semifinals were also played earlier in the day. In the first semi, Inayat paired with Tufail Bhat to defeat crowd-favourites Danish and Wahab in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
In the second semifinal, Moazam and Haider joined hands to defeat Jamil Mir and Tahafuz Ilahi 6-2, 6-3.
Moazam and Haider are the defending champions in the doubles event.
