Srinagar: Unidentified militants on Saturday gave slip to government forces in Noor Bagh area of this capital city after firing several shots towards a police team.
According to reports, a joint team of police and paramilitary CRPF laid a siege around Bagwanpora locality of Noor Bagh in the city on Saturday afternoon after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area. When the joint team started advances, the militants hiding in the locality fired a few shots before making a quick escape.
The gunshots, reports said, triggered panic in the locality prompting the residents to stay indoors. Many shopkeepers also downed their shutters fearing an outbreak of encounter.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said that militants seem to have fled from the locality leaving behind their weapons.
“A small team of Police while laying cordon came under fire from #terrorists in Noorbagh #Srinagar. Seems terrorists managed to escape after dropping their #weapons 01 pistol & 01 AK 47,” police wrote on its official Twitter handle
“However reinforcement of Police & CRPF expanded the cordoned area. #Search going on,” the tweet added.
