Jammu: Asserting that the government’s mission is to reach ‘every last person in line’, The Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday assured that the rail link with Kashmir would be open to the public before 2024.
Vaishnaw, who is also Minister of Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, made these remarks while visiting Jammu Railway Station and a Community Service Centre, CSC, in Janipur, Jammu where he took stock of the facilities being provided to the public, an official spokesperson said.
Speaking on the occasion the Railways minister assured that rail link with Kashmir would be open to the public before 2024.
Regarding Jammu-Poonch railway link, the minister assured that work on the same has been expedited and would be completed after addressing viability issues of the area.
Earlier, the Minister also inspected Jammu Railway Station and studied the upgradation plan for Jammu and Kathua railway stations.
He assured that appropriate steps would be taken to facilitate pilgrims and tourists reaching Jammu and beyond through railways.
Mantriji Impressed By ‘Peaceful Atmosphere’
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, John Barla on Monday said that he was impressed by the peaceful atmosphere and supportive and cooperative attitude of the people claiming that some vested interests were misleading the rest of the country about the situation in Kashmir.
The Minister, who reached here this morning for a two day tour under the Union Government’s public outreach programme, was addressing a joint meeting of District Development Council (DDC) Members, Chairpersons of Block Development Council (BDC) ,PRIs and the administration here, an official spokesperson said.
Barla, he said, maintained that the PM Modi-led government has a good dream for development of Jammu and Kashmir and said that the present out-reach programme has been initiated by the Government to know the basic problems of the people at ground level for its timely resolution.
“The Minister said that he was feeling great happiness while talking one to one to the public representatives of the frontier district Kupwara. He assured that the requests, issues and grievances projected by PRIs, deputations and the public have been taken note of and the same would be put up with Government at Union level as well as with Lieutenant Governor for redressal,” he added.
According to the official spokesperson, the Minister said that he was very much impressed by the peaceful atmosphere and supportive and cooperative attitude of the people here, adding that some vested interests are misleading the rest of the country about the situation in Kashmir.
“John Barla said that he will tell the people across India about the peaceful environment and hospitality of the Kashmiri people. Congratulating the PRIs and administration for successful establishment of three tier Panchayati Raj System, the Minister said that the three tier system of government was available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir first time in the history of independence, adding that it was the joint responsibility of Administration and PRIs to boost the developmental tempo of rural economy,” he said.
