On 22nd of August 2021, 9 members of All Jammu Kashmir Mountaineering Foundation decided to explore some amazing lakes in the area of Hirpora District Shopian, Poonch and Rajouri.
Leaving early morning from Srinagar team boarded and drove all the way to Pir Ki Gali (Shopian) – halted at Dongi Marg near famous Pir Ki Gali pass wherefrom the trek kicks off.
Team set out for the Hirpora lakes from Dongi Marg along Jaddi Nallah which is one of the main sources of Rambiara Nallah. Team reached the wonderful (1) “Chandan Sar lake” at around 3:00 PM. After 30 mins halt team started the ascent to Jaddi pass team came across the (2) “Lakhsukhsar “ and (3) Handu Sar Were the team decided to set a base camp at Handu Sar and soon after we pitched our tents.
Day 2, 23th of August 2021 Team set off towards Bhag Sar which is the 3rd largest alpine lake in J&K after Kousarnag and Gangbal. Bhagsar is located within the Administrative boundaries of District Shipian.
A new day, A new beginning, as it was the Time to traverse the “Ropri Pass” one can explore the (5) BaghSar on the one side and (4)”Barnai Sar” on the other side. Team ventured the area around , enjoyed the beautiful weather and explored (5) Sonasar (6) chambarsar (7) padasar (8) katarnal Sar (9) Nejasar. it was really worth hike up to Neja Gali which is the border between Shopian and Rajouri districts. The pass itself was covered by haze and large glaciers. Further team explored 3 more lakes (10) Dakiyar Sar (11)Tikyar sar (12) Beliya sar. And reached back to base camp around 6 pm.
On Day 3 25th Aug 3rd day was taxing, both physically and emotionally as over the previous two days team had crossed 4-6 passes and already explored 12 lakes. It was a time to hunt 8 more lakes on the same day. Team reached back to chandansar and moved towards shankar marg in which team explored (13) Katorisar (14) Kadchi Sar (15) Nielsar (16) Sukh Sar (17) Kaldichnisar (18) Unnamed lake (19 ) Kukadsar (20) Nandandar. Team descended back from Nandansar and took the same route towards Pir Ki Gali ,boarded up and safely reached back to their Srinagar at 11:30 Pm.
Outline of the trek :
This trek was special for our Club which makes us arguably the first Club to have explored the “20 lakes”, “Passes” and “Valleys” in and around Hirpora WLS.
Apart from that, its a matter honour that two of our club members namely, Mr. Ahsan Mohsin and Mr. Rameez Ahmad Dar, completed a mark of exploring 100 + Alpine lakes in Kashmir region.
