Srinagar- On Friday, more than 60 lakh worth of gold and cash was stolen from a house set to host a wedding ceremony in Malabagh area of Srinagar.
The thief, as per family sources, had struck the house of Ghulam Jeelani Khan resident of Mala Bagh, Soura in Srinagar, when nobody was at home as the family had gone to Khyber Hospital for some medical treatment. The robbers had barged into the house between 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm on Friday.
The incident has left the family devastated, as their son’s wedding was scheduled in just over two week’s time from the incident.
“As we came back from the hospital, we found all our stuff gone. There was, however, no visible sign of forced entry. The thief had managed to get into our house easily and had proficiently gone around stealing”, said house owner Ghulam Jeelani Khan. “The stolen Gold, cash and other items from the house are worth more than 60 lakhs. The incident has taken an inexplicable toll on my family. We’re in shock.”
The family immediately took the matters to the police, who have already questioned some suspects.
“Unfortunately, there is no CCTV footage to verify the identity of the culprits”, an officer from the concerned police station told Kashmir Observer. “But we do have the fingerprints of the culprit on some of the items from the house. The fingerprints will be matched with the suspects’ and they are also set to be produced in front of the magistrate tomorrow.”
The officer reassured that the matter is being taken up on priority and are positive about finding the culprits soon
