Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has been conferred with Earth Day Network Star Municipal Leadership Award by Earth day Network on August 15 for its Anti-Polythene initiative – the #6RCampaign!
In a statement, a spokesperson said that SMC has initiated a campaign to make Srinagar City free of polythene and prohibited single use plastics. “The sale, use, hoardings and stocking has been prohibited. Penalties for violations are being done.”
The statement reads that a number of Anti-Polythene check posts are being stationed in different markets and entry points of the city.
“SMC has also launched an awareness programme #6RCampaign revolving around 6 R’s – Reduce, Reuse. Recycle, Remove, Refuse and Report.”
It reads that discouraging use of polythene and single use plastics and encouraging use of eco-friendly alternatives is an integral part of campaign.
