SRINAGAR: Newly formed Old City, Srinagar-based football club Downtown Heroes has taken a giant leap forward by qualifying for the I-League 2nd Division from Jammu & Kashmir.
In its first year of existence, the Heroes secured the qualification from J&K after performing brilliantly in the recently concluded JKFA Professional League 2021.
Downtown Heroes finished third in the tournament and second in I-League qualification. They started the League in a brilliant fashion, winning three out of three opening games. Fumble in the later half of the League, the Heroes had to battle it out till the final day.
The Heroes have been hailed for their performances by fans and experts like, impressed by their attacking and entertaining style of play. In matches where they could easily sit back and secure points, they continued to press up the field and made it clear that they want score goals.
In a statement, the Downtown Heroes FC lauded the immense capabilities of JKFA in successfully hosting the Professional League 2021 in Srinagar.
“It was very encouraging to see a number of people turning up and enjoy the football here. We are equally thankful to our fans without their support and encouragement it would not have been possible”, the statement read.
“We would also express our gratitude to friends from the media fraternity and our revered sponsors who contributed to the league brilliantly.”
“We believe that the our local players are full of talent, intelligence along with being technically sound. We are therefore keenly looking forward to seeing the top quality talent in Kashmir,” the statement added.
