Srinagar: Amid ongoing pandemic, the 656th Urs of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdan and Amir-e-Kabir in Kashmir was observed on Saturday. The biggest gathering was witnessed at Khanqah-e-Maula in Old Srinagar City where devotees congregated while maintaining the Covid protocol.
Notably, the authorities didn’t allow congregational prayers at Khanqah-e-Moula and other places last year in the wake of the deadly pandemic.
The annual Urs of Shah-e-Hamdan is observed on the 6th Zil-Haj of Islamic lunar calendar.
As the restricted congregational prayers were allowed this year, the devotees in large numbers including men, women, and children thronged Khanqah-e-Maula shrine on the banks of River Jehlum in old Srinagar.
The religious clerics on the occasion threw light on the life and achievements of Hazrat Mir Sayed Ali Hamadani and expressed hope that the teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan shall continue to guide people of this land and draw spiritual solace for them.
The Urs of Shah Hamdan (RA) was also observed with religious fervor at Jinab Sahab Soura, Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, Kabamarg and Khiram Sirhama in Anantnag, Dooru Seer Hamdan, Aham Sharif Bandipora, Budgam, Kupwara and Bandipora.
Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hussayni Hamadani (1314-1384) also known as “Shah Hamdan” (King of Hamadan) and as Amir-i-Kabir (the Great Commander) was a Persian Sufi and a prominent Muslim scholar.
He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and has had a major hand in shaping the culture of the Kashmir valley. He also introduced the skills of famed handicraft amongst the people for which Kashmir is famous all over the world.
