SRINAGAR: Mission Youth, J&K on Wednesday announced that it has initiated process for inviting players to various competitions under Lt Governor’s Rolling Trophy in four sports divisions including Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball and Football.
The competitions will be organised at block level, district, provincial and UT level in leagues spread over a period of three months. The biggest talent hunt programme includes sports events, personality development, and a host of other events
Chief Executive Officer, Mission Youth J&K, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary finalised modalities in a meeting with officers from the Department of Youth Services and Sports. Director General, Youth Services & Sports, Dr Saleem ur Rehaman, OSD Mission Youth, Tabish Saleem, District Youth Services & Sports Officers and sportspersons discussed various aspects of the mega sports exercises.
Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Shahbaz Mirza and Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Rajesh Shavan, as special invitees, shared a number of youth centric engagement initiatives planned in the district covering various sports and other activities including efficient planning for youth clubs.
CEO Mission Youth briefed the participants about LG’s Rolling Trophy under which competitions will be organised in 4 sports for Junior and Senior level.
Mission Youth, a special program for the overall development of youth in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir aims to come up with a sports initiative across 20 districts of Jammu Division and Kashmir Division. The LG’s Rolling Trophy is planned to be the biggest talent hunt across the Union Territory attempted so far that shall not just identify and train the talent further in cricket, football, basketball and volleyball disciplines but also groom the youngsters into soft skills required for overall personality development.
Talent across all four disciplines – cricket, football, basketball and volleyball shall be identified at two levels as per the age group – Under 19 years (Junior) and Above 19 years (Senior). Under 19 years (Junior) would comprise of youth from age 14 years to 19 years and Above 19 years (Senior) would comprise of youth from age 19 years to 29 years. Separate tournaments may be arranged for boys and girls respectively to select senior and junior teams for both. Three-day selection camps starting from Block level shall be held across all 20 districts of Jammu Division and Kashmir Division for each of the 4 disciplines.
Candidates shortlisted from block level tournaments will be called to play district level tournaments. Sports veterans and senior players in these disciplines may be invited as selectors for identifying the talent at Junior as well as Senior level. Honorarium for these special invitees may be covered under the overall budget allotted to a district. During the selection camps, besides the sports training, soft skills training into different aspects like resilience, time management, stress management, communication skills, teamwork, sports ethics and leadership skills (which would help participants evolve into better players as well as human beings) shall also be imparted by expert trainers of YSS Department and expert coaches.
Two teams (Junior & Senior) across the 4 sports disciplines from 20 districts shall then participate in a league in Srinagar/Jammu wherein the winners and star performers will be rewarded at the end of the league. Three matches across all 4 sports disciplines and 2 levels (Junior and Senior) will be played every day across 2 different venues/stadiums in both the cities to achieve the target of 720 league matches excluding the semi-finals and the final.
Modalities for unique identity of teams, brand, logo, refreshment, sports logistics, involving sports personalities, outreach and other aspects were also finalised.
