Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti on Friday demanded accountability from government forces whenever legitimate questions are raised over encounters.
“Encounters occur on a daily basis in J&K. But when legitimate questions are raised the security forces must be held accountable. The parents of the 17 yr old minor killed in the Kulgam gunfight claim that he was an innocent civilian. GOI must come clean on these allegations,” Mehbooba posted on her Twitter page.
The former CM was reacting to the claims made by 17-year-old Zakir Bashir’s family alleging that the forces dragged the teen out of his home, beat him up and shot him twice before slitting his throat.
On Thursday, police claimed to have killed three Lashkar militants, including Zakir in an encounter in Chimmer area of Kulgam district.
“Pertinently, Zakir Bashir had recently joined the outfit. As per police records, all the killed militants were part of a group involved in various militancy crimes,” the police spokesperson had said.
