Jammu: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday produced a charge-sheet against a police Sub-Inspector who was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe.
Chargesheet was filed against SI Suresh Sharma, the then In-charge Police Post, Rajouri City, before the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Rajouri in case FIR No.02/2019 under section 5(1) (d) r/w section 5(2), 4-A of J&K PC Act Samvat, 2006 registered in Police Station, ACB Rajouri, an official of the anti-graft body said Thursday. The court, he said, listed the case for next hearing on August 10.
Divulging details of the case, the bureau spokesperson said that a written complaint was received by the office of SSP (PR) ACB on September 6, 2019 from Ajay Pal Singh alleging that the police officer was demanding a bribe for helping in investigation of a false case registered in police station Rajouri against his uncle Sharanjit Singh who was arrested by Sharma.
A day earlier, the ACB spokesperson said that the complainant Ajay Pal Singh visited police post Rajouri City on September 5, and enquired the matter from SI Suresh Sharma, who demanded Rs 3 lakh from him for helping his uncle during investigation of the case. The officer also threatened to harass the complainant’s uncle who was in the police custody.
“After negotiation the SI agreed to accept Rs 1 Lakh as advance and rest of the amount would be paid to him after bail out of Sharanjit Singh,” the ACB spokesperson said.
On the receipt of the complaint, he said, a case FIR No. 02/2019 was registered and a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap.
“The accused was caught red-handed while demanding & accepting illegal gratification of Rs.1 lakh in presence of independent witnesses and trap team members. The accused person was arrested on spot,” the ACB spokesperson said, adding that the accused police officer was released on the bail granted by Court.
“Investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau proved the allegations of corruption charges against the accused. After completing the investigation of the case, sanction for launching of prosecution of the accused was also obtained from the competent authority and Anti-Corruption Bureau J&K produced a charge sheet against the above-mentioned accused person before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court, Rajouri on June 23.
