New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested four students from Ladakh in connection with the Israel embassy blast case here on January 29, reports said on Thursday.
According to these reports, the students were brought on transit remand to Delhi from Kargil, and after several rounds of questioning, they have been put under arrest.
The accused, all residents of Thung village in Kargil, have been identified as Nazir Hussain, Zulfikar Ali Wazir, Aiaz Hussain and Muzammil Hussain all in their mid twenties. The last two are brothers, while the other two are their cousins.
On January 29, a minor IED blast took place 150 metres away from the Embassy of Israel on the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road causing minor damage to some cars parked there.
Delhi Police Additional PRO Anil Mittal had said that blast could be a mischievous attempt to create a sensation.
On February 2 this year the Special Cell registered a case. Later the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had taken over the case .
On June 15, the NIA had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each for any information on the two suspects involved in the bomb blast. It had also issued the photographs and videos of the alleged suspects seen in the CCTV video footage captured outside the embassy.
According to Nazir’s father, Mohammad Baqir police visited his house on June 22 informing that a team from Delhi wanted to ask some questions to our children, and they would send them back immediately, according to a report in The Indian Express.
“Nobody told us what they are accused of. They didn’t let us meet them. Later, they called and told us that they had been arrested and taken to Delhi. We got to know about it (the charges against them) through the media today,” said Baqir.
“We don’t even know what the allegations are. We have been asking for a copy of the FIR or any other information from the police, but haven’t been given anything as yet,” said Sajad Hussain Kargili, a local political leader.
Aiaz Hussain is learnt to have done his graduation from Ramjas College in Delhi; his brother Muzammil Hussain is a post-graduate (Botany) from Panjab University. Zulfiqar Ali is doing his post-graduation in Commerce (distance learning) from Dyal Singh College in Delhi; Nazir Hussain is doing his post-graduation in Physical Education from Panjab University. Sources said the arrested persons were present in Delhi when the explosion took place on January 29.
