Srinagar: In a tragic accident, a teenager from this capital city drowned to death while taking a selfie on the banks of a canal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, reports said Tuesday.
19-year-old Muhammad Salim Khan of Pandach area in the city outskirts lost his balance while trying to click a selfie on the bank of Power Canal at Gund Aku area of the district on Monday evening, a local news agency KNT reported. Soon after the incident, the locals and police started an operation to rescue the teen from the gushing waters. However, due to darkness, the report said, the operation was suspended for night.
With the first light of the day on Tuesday, the search operation was resumed and the teen’s body was retrieved.
The report also said that the slain teen had gone to picnic with six friends to the tourist resort of Sonmarg.
Meanwhile, a police officer said that after the completion of all medico-legal formalities, the body has been handed over to family for last rites.
A case in this regard has been registered at police station Gund, the report added.
