Srinagar: Unidentified militants on Thursday shot dead a policeman near his home in Eidgah area of this capital city.
The policeman Javaid Ahmad Tambi was outside his house in Saidpora locality of Eidgah on Thursday evening when unidentified militants appeared there and fired shots at him, officials said. In the surprise militant attack, they said, the cop was critically injured and was removed to the nearby SK institute of medical sciences Soura for treatment.
He was declared dead on arrival at the tertiary care hospital, they said.
A senior police officer confirmed the killing of the policeman and said that he was posted with a judicial officer. He has shortly returned to home after duties, they said.
Pertinently, today’s attack on police in Srinagar comes a day after a local Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in a gunfight with state forces in Nowgam area of the city outskirts on Wednesday.
