Baramulla: A huge quantity of drugs worth one hundred crores have been seized by police in North Kashmir in last two months while more than two dozen drug peddlers have been arrested and booked under NDPS Act.
Inspector General of Police North Kashmir Range Sujit Kumar Singh (IPS) said parents, civil society members and Imams of Masajid have to play their role to eliminate drug menace from Kashmir Valley.
Divulging details, he said that for the last two months J&K Police in north Kashmir have recovered huge consignments of drugs including Heroin, Brown Sugar, Charas, poppy straw and other banned drugs worth one hundred crores from different Parts of the region including Baramullla, Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore and Bandipora.
Kumar said that recently Kupwara Police seized a single consignment of heroin worth fifty crores adding that dozens of Drug Peddlers were also arrested by Baramulla Police besides that some notorious drug peddlers were also arrested by Sopore, Handwara and Bandipora Police.
He said that not only police are responsible to curb drug menace but the civil societies, parents as well as religious preachers have to play their role against the menace and the parents have to keep close watch on their wards. (Agencies)
