Srinagar: Lithe, debonair, handsome and exceedingly intelligent Hakeem Iftikhar Hussain (Ifi Bhaijan to many) loved and enjoyed life to the hilt. Alas! Ifi lost his month long battle against the dreaded Covid-19 at a hospital in Delhi this morning, 17 days after losing his wife to the same disease. He was 67. Ifi is survived by son Asgar and daughter Sakeena.
A truly versatile man Iftikhar was a law graduate from the University of Kashmir and a trained Radiographer. Radiography brought him fame as he scanned thousands of people for various ailments at the popular Modern X-Ray Clinic opposite Neelum Cinema which had been founded by his late father Dr Hakeem Maqbool.
In 1997 when Kashmir Observer was established Iftikhar volunteered to be part of this new media project. He left the job at the clinic to his lieutenants and joined Kashmir Observer as its first General Manager. His foray into media scape was purely out of his passion for Kashmir. He remained associated with KO till he decided to shift to Delhi in 2007.
In the last few years Iftikhar, restless as he was, had been planning to return to his home. He was trying very hard to establish an ECCP facility here in Srinagar and had moved some machines for the purpose as well. But God almighty had destined something else for him. Rest in peace Ifi.
